Autodesk Inventor & 3D Cable Harnessing
Autodesk Inventor 3D Cable & Harnessing
The Cable & Harness environment converts symbolic schematics into exact 3D solid representations to evaluate mechanical spatial clearing and exact wire bundle bundle metrics.
📥 Establishing the Link Connection
To accept wiring data generated in AutoCAD Electrical:
- Open your main structural assembly file (
.iam) inside Inventor. - Navigate to the Environments Tab and click Cable and Harness.
- Select Electromechanical Link Setup from the ribbon toolbar.
- Link to the matching
.emxtracking file generated by the schematic workflow.
🗺️ Execution/Routing Protocols
Once the link establishes connection parity, follow this routing workflow:
Step 1: Component Definition Mapping
Ensure electrical pins on components match your schematic labels. Right-click parts inside Inventor to change their properties to match the schematic reference tags (e.g., PB101).
Step 2: Path Generation
Use the Create Segment tool to define the physical layout path where wire bundles are allowed to travel across your system frames.
Step 3: Wire Imports & Routing
- Click Import Wire List to draw in schematic definitions automatically if utilizing the manual option, or pull directly from the active live link.
- Execute the Automatic Route function. Wires will automatically find the shortest pathway through your pre-defined segments.
Step 4: True Bundle Length Reports
Run the harness report generator to calculate the exact physical length of wires for production cutting, including specific service loop slack adjustments.
